Someone wise once said to us “fail to plan, plan to fail” and this rings true when it comes to saving.
The hardest part about going travelling is finding the money to fund your dreams.
When we first had the urge to travel the world we asked ourselves could we actually afford to do this!? Without winning the lottery or partaking in some sort of illegal activity we were determined to make it happen.
Admittedly it can be a huge mountain to climb but it doesn’t have to be difficult.
Here are our top tips to getting out of here sooner!
Create a savings plan (and stick to it)
Excitement makes the first days of saving a breeze but set a plan in motion to make it happen.
Start a spreadsheet or download an app to help you! Write down all (and we mean all) of your expenses. You will soon realise the difference between wants and needs and this can drastically improve the look of your bank account.
Continue to monitor your plan, monthly or weekly if need be, and adjust it when you have to. This will help you achieve your goals and remove any unnecessary spending.
Make sure your plan is feasible. Are you dreaming too big?
Life doesn’t have to become ‘boring’ before you travel but be realistic because you’d be surprised where you can find little savings here and there.
Do you need to buy that coffee on the way to work?
Why not cut back on buying your lunch at the café down the road and pack a sandwich?
Enjoy some drinks at home before a night out with friends.
Cook at home for your loved ones rather than eating out at your favourite exotic restaurant. Save the Italian food for when you’re in Italy.
Stop buying new clothes; is there actually anything wrong with your current wardrobe?
