Cause I am!
Just the thought of air travel is enough to put fear into people and something to me feels unnatural about air travel, cruising hundreds of kilometers per hour, thousands of feet above the ground...
Fear of flying is very common and you're definitely not alone with this one and I must admit after travelling the world I don't think I'm actually getting any better?! There is hope though, follow these tips and it will make getting on-board a whole lot easier.
Make a plan to stay distracted, set yourself up with a playlist so you can listen to your favourite tunes, pre-browse the In-flight entertainment before you get on board so you can plan to watch the latest blockbusters, or take a book or two - something you've been meaning to read but haven't got around to - you'll have plenty of time on your hands.
Whatever you do don't read about plane disasters, don't watch those television shows, it won't help and can leave you feeling worse. Rather focus on the positives - remember flying is the safest by far in terms of methods of transportation. Challenge those irrational negative thoughts as they (inevitably) creep into your head.
Have a travel partner
If for no other reason than to hold your hand during take-off and landing where possible don't travel alone. If you can travel with a loved one or friend they'll help to calm your nerves. Be sure that it's someone that you trust and be honest and upfront with them that you are reluctant to fly before you get on-board. This way both of you can be prepared if in the event you become nervous at any time during the flight.
